BCS-Forensics
Electronic Evidence & Data Recovery Services
BCS has leading-edge technology for computer investigation, electronic discovery, data recovery and litigation.

Increasingly, civil and criminal litigation involves computerized data of one form or another.

In many cases, data stored on computer related media plays a central role. Being able to effectively deal with this data, in the course of discovery, a computer investigation can be instrumental to success at trial or negotiation. In every company, employees, partners, customers and competitors continually generate electronic information about the business. Each disk, PDA, laptop, personal computer, network and mainframe system is its own repository.

This "intellectual property" is a great asset to your organization. It includes information about every aspect of the business and is often not only confidential but also sensitive. This asset is also your biggest liability. Computers never forget - they automatically retain information such as who, when and where data was last accessed and whether it has been tampered with, copied or deleted.

Unfortunately, computer information is often not adequately protected and computer-related crime is rapidly growing. The ability to discover and investigate the misuse or theft of sensitive information is becoming increasingly important if the information you store electronically is to remain intact and, more importantly, within your control.

Computer Forensics and Electronic Investigation are emerging, leading-edge fields of which many are not familiar.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

1. "What is Computer Forensics?"

Computer forensics is a science, a discipline, and an art, all involving the identification, preservation, extraction, documentation, and interpretation of computer data. At times it is more science than art, another time it is more art than science, but it is always a discipline that follows industry-standard methodologies and procedures, while allowing flexibility and experimentation with validation. If this is the type of computer examination you need, then contract with a forensic computer examiner; after all, most people would not go to a general practitioner for a heart operation!

2. "I'm pretty good with computers... Why can't I do this myself?"

Good question? You probably could.  But to do it well, and be able to validate the information, you need to purchase specific tools and be trained in the accepted procedures. It is not sufficient to merely have the technical skills to locate data on computer media. A strict chain of custody and documentation needs to be established during the information gathering process. For most individuals this cannot be cost justified.  We do offer training programs for those who want to develop in-house investigation services, Contact Us.

3. "Where does the investigation take place?"

We need access to the client's computer for the duplication process.  This can be done either at the computers' location, our office, or another suitable site.  Once the duplication is completed, we perform the investigation at our office.

4. "Will I lose the use of my computer for the duration of the investigation?"

No We will make a duplicate of your hard drive " a ghost-image".  Once this procedure is completed we perform our investigation without impacting the client's computer usage.  The only downtime our clients experience is during the duplication process and we can arrange it around their work schedule.

5. "What about personal or confidential information you find during your investigation?"

We provide a confidentiality agreement insuring any discovery we make is kept confidential between us and our client. Read our privacy policy.

6. "Can your investigation be tailored to search for specific information?"

Yes.  We will work with our client to determine what information we are looking for and can search on requested criteria and terms. Our professionals have the skills and tools necessary to perform such task in a timely and efficient manner.

7. "Will I lose data on my computer/network?"

The duplication process is non-invasive and does not change data on the client's computers, LAN or Network.  We take the necessary steps to prevent loss of data.

8. "Do you have offices in my area?"

Our head quarters is in New Jersey with offices in Buenos Aires-Argentina and San Jose-Costa Rica. But, we are willing to travel and depending upon your particular situation, we may be able to do the work remotely from our home office.

9. "Do you have special software tools that we can buy?"

Yes. We have special software that can run on your company Network, LAN or PC to help you monitor your employees, sons, daughters, kids, family and any other activities you need to control.

10.  "How do we get our data and Investigation Results?"

After conducting the investigation all data and evidence we recover will be transfer to DVD-ROM and send to our client via FEDEX, UPS, or Certified Mail whichever is suitable and faster to our client. Also we can set up a secured FTP-site and upload the data, the reports, the findings, everything that we recover so our client can view it in real time. An userID and a PLW will be given to the person or client manager in-charge of the investigation via phone call so they can access the information. For security purposes we will confirm the clients name, phone number and e-mail address before leaving a voice mail with this information.
